In the 1830 City Directory he was listed as a house carpenter living at 356 North 5th street. The 1856 City Directory lists Shaffer at the same residence.     <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Charles M. Shoemaker was a master builder working in Philadelphia around the middle of the 19th century. Likely the grandson of Thomas Shoemaker, an earlier master builder and President of the Carpenters' Company of Philadelphia, Charles Shoemaker was elected to the Carpenters' Company in 1851 at the young age of . In 1850, Shoemaker was listed in the City Directory at 334 North 7th street. In 1854, he was again listed as a carpenter at 334 North 7th street but also had his new home, 450 North 4th street, listed as well.     <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Thomas Shoemaker was a master builder elected to The Carpenters' Company on 1 February 1769, the same year he appears in the Philadelphia tax lists as a resident of the North Ward. He was an "encourager" of the Philadelphia edition of Abraham Swan, The British Architect (1775), the first book of architecture published in America, and the following year he is recorded as taking the inventory of plumber Eden Haydock's estate. For the last twenty years of his life, Shoemaker served on committees or as an officer of The Carpenters' Company (Master, President, and Treasurer). By the time of his death he was clearly a person of means with extensive real estate holdings. <br /><br /><br />Written by Roger W.     <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Isaac Shunk was a master builder in Philadelphia elected to the Carpenters' Company in 1823. It is revealed in Donna J. Rilling's book, Making Houses, Crafting Capitalism: Builders in Philadelphia, 1790-1850, that Isaac Shunk worked for carpenter Joshua Sharples in 1805 and 1806. After elected to the Carpenters' Company, Shunk served on the Book Prices Committee in 1826 and from 1832-55. Shunk first lived at 54 Chester street. By 1824, he moved to 35 Palmyra Square and continued to live there until atleast 1850 and probably until his death in 1855. He served as a Company Warden and and six terms on the Managing Committee. Finally, he served as the Treasurer of the Carpenters' Company from 1881-1888. Henry Shuster lived on Spring Garden street.     <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Thomas F. Shuster was a master builder of Philadelphia in the 1800s. Born in 1816, he was elected to the Carpenters' Company in 1849, twelve years after his older brother, Henry Shuster. Little is known of his professional work but he served as an officer of the Company for many years, first as a warden and then multiple terms on the Managing Committee. He served also served as the Secretary (1869-71), Vice President (1872-74) and President (1875-77). The 1860 City Directory has Shuster's place of work listed as 1006 Nectarine and his home adress as 820 Buttonwood.
