Richard Mosley was a master builder who served his apprenticeship with Benjamin Worrell, gaining his freedom in 1774. Shortly thereafter he joined the Friendship Carpenters' Company; and when that company joined with The Carpenters' Company in 1786, he signed the articles. At the time of the 1790 census he was living in Southwark and attended Company meetings through 1797 when he appears to have left Philadelphia, probably for Kentucky.
