Alphonso C. Ireland was a master builder elected to The Carpenters' Company in 1799. In Philadelphia city directories he cites himself as a carpenter from 1797 to 1818. In 1818 he added "and measurer of carpenters' work" and from 1824 to 1830 he amended this to "carpenter, city regulator, and measurer of carpenters' work."

Managing Committee Minutes-1806-15-13, 14, 179 On application of Alphonso C. Ireland to loan $700 of the Company Jacob Lybrand and Daniel Knight are a committee to examine property offered as security. Committee to examine the security offered by Alphonso Ireland for the loan of $700. The committee appointed to examine the security offered by Alphonso Ireland for the loan of $700 report the same sufficient. The Collector reports that he has received of Alphonso C. Ireland $700 the amount of mortgage. Managing Committee Minutes-1819-17-14, 15, 19 George Summers and James Mitchell were appointed to inquire respecting the loan of $500 to A.C. Ireland. On motion resolved: that the sum of $500 be granted to A.C. Ireland on the property in Powell street to be paid as convenient to the Company. An order was drawn in favor of A.C. Ireland for $250 it being the balance of the $500 loaned him on mortgage. Managing Committee Minutes-1821-18-41, 62 Committee to settle a difference between William Garrigues and A.C. Ireland respecting bill of measurement. Application was made by A.C. Ireland for the sum of $175 at a former meeting, and a Committee appointed to make the necessary inquiry, reported favorable. Ireland and he being present stated to the committee that there was a suit and execution against him which if not released would be attended with serious consequence. and that the sum needed of $100 cash and to become responsible for the further sum of $170. He would give a bill of sale of his furniture and a power of attorney to collect the rents due on his houses in Powell st. Resolved: that the sum of $100 be loaned upon the aforesaid condition. Resolved: that an order be drawn in favor of Jesse Williamson for $100 it being for the use of Alphonso Ireland. Resolved: that an order be drawn in favor of Jesse Williamson for $170 the balance which the committee agreed to loan A.C. Ireland. Jesse Williamson reports having received of A.C. Ireland $50 on account. Committee to obtain a bond for A.C. Ireland for $260 due by him to the Company. A.C. Ireland stated to the committee that his estate situated in Powell St. and Pine St. were to be sold by the sheriff on this evening at the Merchant's Coffee House, and wished the Company to take such order on the same as they might deem expedient. Whereupon the President, Joseph Worrell and Cornelius Stevenson were appointed a committee to purchase the same so as to secure the debt due by him to the Company. The committee appointed to purchase the property of A.C. Ireland report that they have attended to their duty and bought the same as follows. Whereas considerable difficulty having arisen in the sheriff making a title to the property of A.C. Ireland in Pine and Powell st. bought by the committee at Sheriff's sale being certain mortgages on the said property, which must be paid off so as to obtain clear title. Whereupon it was resolved to obtain a loan from the bank of the sum of $3,500 for the above purposes. Resolved that Cornelius Stevenson be authorized to advertise the property in Pine and Powll st. for sale, in two of the daily papers. The President of the Company reported: that in conjunction with the Treasurer had negotiated a loan with The Farmers & Mechanics Bank for $3,500. $11.88 in favor of Ogden Evans poor tax on property late A.C. Ireland for 1822. In favor of Richard and Benjamin Loxley for $22.50, balance of ground rent due on A.C. Ireland's property. The President reports having received from the Sheriff $12 the balance in his hands from the purchase of A.C. Ireland's property. Managing Committee Minutes-1823-18-121, 122, 132, 147, 150, 156 An order be drawn in favor of Thomas Allen $21.12 for city tax due on the estate late of A.C. Ireland On motion resolved: that P. Justus be authorized to attend having the policies of insurance on the late property of A.C. Ireland transferred to the Carpenters' Company. Resolved: that the President of the Company be authorized to advertise for sale the two houses late of A.C. Ireland purchased by the Company. House in Pine st. limit $2,500 ask $2,750. Estate in Powell st. limit $2,600 ask $2,800. An offer having been made by Capt. John Campbell to purchase the house in Pine St. belonging to the Company - for $2,500 cash. It was on motion, resolved: that Joseph Worrell, president of the Company, & Jesse Williamson be authorized to call on A.C. Ireland, the present occupant of the premises and know from him how it would suit his convenience when in case of a sale, to deliver up the possession of the premises to the purchaser. Order in favor of Stone & Coffie amount $7.40 being for plumbers work done at house Powell st., late of A.C. Ireland. Committee to settle account between A.C. Ireland and the Company. Managing Committee Minutes-1825-18-213, 239 An application of Alphonso Ireland to have his amount settled and the property reconveyed subject to mortgage of balance due the Company. John O'Neill reported he received from A.C. Ireland $20 on account of interest due. Managing Committee Minutes-1827-18-278, 281 William Govett reported having received $500 on account of interest due from Alphonso Ireland. On motion resolved: that the Treasurer be authorized to return all bonds of A.C. Ireland that are satisfied and enter satisfaction for the same on those omitted.
