Dissertation by Donna J. Rilling, chapter 4, page 49 Raising the frame continued throughout the early 19th century to be a sort of communal event. A house raising exceeded the muscle and manpower immediately available at the building site, and assistance was rewarded by a "Raising supper." Joseph Trotter reimbursed house carpenter Jacob Kenderdine $16.50 for the "expense of rasing" the frame of his house.
